Sometimes I use spoken words (have to “translate” on the fly) for storytelling. Sometimes I use the exact written word for education. Children most likely just watch the pictures.
How old are the kids you're reading to? I have to figure out what to do pedagogically about this at some point. Maybe I'll know what's useful from learning it myself, maybe not.
