Yup, I have just played through the demo of “Prince of Persia: Warrior Within” (WW) . After the success of the “Sand of Time” (SoT) , the team continue to work on this new version.
The game engine is very much alike. The fog effect is still there and there are some other enhancements of the graphic effect. However, for the graphic quality, it’s very much the same as the old one.
The first part of the demo is a fighting tutorial where you have to fight enemies directly to learn a lesson. The combat system is enhanced. I found that I can perform some of the move in SoT but it cannot cause a one-hit kill anymore. There are more variation after you grab your second weapon. You can then perform some very powerful + fantastic move. Most of those moves are surrounded by golden sand. So, I guess we still need to collect sand? The fighting experience is good. I feel that it’s so much easier to trigger move. You properly control your ‘use’, attack and block can bring you through the game easily.
For the game system, the top left corner is the life bar and some other unknown feature. There are two meter within. There are also some icon inside but I have no idea on what they are.
The puzzle part is not so hard and as usual it requires you to have a good reflex. Those do-not-make-sense puzzle is still here. (Who will put a button on the high wall in a prison’s room where the button will activiate the main door?) It’s the 2nd part of the demo where you have to do that little jump and avoid trap. Bascially nothing special there.
There is two boss in this demo. I only fight the first one because the 2nd boss has some bug: if you make him moves toward a walk or corner, he will stuck and so as you, because you cannot fight him and nothing can happen. It’s too bad. I don’t want to play the whole level again to get to this stupid boss.
The game is much darker. Also the prince seems so much mature than SoT. I think the gaming experience would also be great too as the system is quite enjoyable. Let’s see!
